Extension Points
When your live center is just too close

Have you encountered any of these problems?
  • Near the end of turning a delicate piece you find yourself crowded against the live center without the room to finish off.
  • You want to have tailstock support but you don't want a big dent in the end.
  • You need to "push" from the tailstock end without marking the work.
  • you want to center a finial without marking it.

Extension Points are the answer.  These machined points are approximately Ø3/8" by 1 1/2" long and are designed to fit in a Oneway or Powermatic live center.  There are 5 types:

flat
for pushing or holding without
leaving a point hole.

small point
for some side-to-side support or when holding on a specific mark.

inverted cone
for centering a tapered piece or for extra side-to-side support.

micro point
just like the "small point" but even smaller - perfect for very hard woods.
Extension Points
are easy to install or change.  Just tap out the point of you Oneway or Powermatic live center and replace it with an

tapered cone
a strong point for heavier work when you still want the extra room .
